The thermal test is performed under conditions simulating regular usage to ensure that no component of the luminaire, including the LED module, driver, internal wiring, and mounting surface, reaches a temperature that could compromise customer safety. The thermal test is carried out in a closed room which is maintained at the test ambient temperature.
The luminaire is switched on and allowed to stabilise before temperature measurements commence. Temperatures are recorded using numbered probes attached to the points of highest temperature on the critical components and the exposed surfaces of the luminaire.
Temperatures are recorded every 10 minutes using data loggers and temperature recording software. Compliance with the standard BS EN 60598-1 is met if the highest luminaire component temperatures attained are within the limits stated in Section 12 of BS EN 60598-1 and the luminaire does not
become unsafe.
