The Needle Flame Test is a standardised test used to evaluate the flammability of materials. During the test, a small flame, resembling the tip of a needle, is applied to the surface of the material being tested for 10 seconds.
When the flame is removed, any burning of the test material shall self-extinguish within 30 seconds. In addition, any burning or molten droplets shall not ignite a piece of tissue paper placed under the sample.
The test follows specific procedures outlined in standard IEC 60695-11-5.
